KUGB Grand Slam

On Saturday 14th August Liam O'Grady and Fraser Grice represented England at the KUGB Grand Slam event in Chsterfield. The event is and international competition with competitiors from the England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland Teams.

For Fraser he was fighting in the under 16 years old catagory. No weight or height divisions. Fraser being 14 and not the tallest was a tough but exiting challenge. Unfortunatley for him he came up against a much larger opponent and afetr a well contested match lost in the first round.

Liam O'Grady was fighting in the senior men's event and was looking sharp. He got to the semi finals with some spectacular pionts being scored by him on the way. Liam fought Chris Evans from Wales in the semi finals. Chris was awarded a match winning punch on Liam which was very sharp and strong that took Liam off his feet. Non the less Liam stood back up and lost the fight. Chris went on to also beat John Bruce in the final to win the event.

York Karate Club Grading

On Sunday 11th July 2010 Sensei Harford 7th Dan came to York Karate's Hombu Dojo for the first time since it was opened in March this year. He was very impressed with our dojo and is looking forward to his return later in the year.

The day started with a special training session for black belts and 1st kyu's with Sensei Harford teaching very fine and intricate details of techniques to which was very insightful and was enjoyed by all.

As the day progressed the teaching of each different groups went on with everyone enjoying the training methods demonstrated by Sensei Harford.

With 98 students grading and all progressing to their next grade the overall attitude and abilities shown by the students was fantastic and all instructors were very pleased and proud of the results.

A special mention must go to our volunteers, Maria Coatsworth and Sarah McCreaner for their hard work stood all day making and selling tea and coffee, thank you both very much.

Keep up the hard work everyone.
